Upon graduating from Plymouth State College, with a degree in Accounting/Business, Greg ran a team driving a truck that summer with his cousin and business partner Doug.

He then worked at an accounting firm in Concord NH before going into the oil business working for Gays Fuel, the family business, and then ran B-D-R as the Office Manager for many years, until he and Doug bought B-D-R.

"My love of trucks started when I was in my early teens in the mid-1970s. My dad, Richard Gay, was a truck driver and I would watch him leave for his trips in his white International cabover... and as soon as he would come into the driveway upon his return, I'd wash the truck and polish it...I even spent many of my evenings sleeping in the truck.... just because I wanted to be around trucks.

When he was home, I was in the truck as much as I could be. I just started putting it in gear, going forward and backing up in our long driveway.

For years during school and summer vacations I went on the road with him for several days at a time. Those trips hold some of my best childhood memories to this day.

Dad would help me with everything that I needed to learn how to do, he just was really excited and loved the idea that I liked something that he did.

He just embraced my enthusiasm and it took off from there.

I got my CDL A license when I was 18, but at that time in New Hampshire that's all I could drive was Intrastate until I was 21---at which time I could drive Interstate.

Our family business, Gays Fuel, was located in Bellows Falls, Vermont and we didn't have any work or trucks registered in New Hampshire that I could drive/work, so I did part-time work for a competitor of my father's, for Cray Energy. I began as a Warehouse Manager and then worked my way up to driving in basically a pickup truck making deliveries until I was 21.

As soon as I was old enough, my Dad leased one of the Gays Fuel trucks onto Bullet Express out of Brooklyn, New York.

Dad and I ran the team for 3 months all over the United States. I hit 47 of the lower 48 states in those 3 months.

Dad got off the truck at that point, and then Greg got qualified for Bullet Express and we ran summers while he was in college, I drove single the remainder of time until Gays Fuel leased trucks onto BDR Transport.

I then ran the team for BDR for almost 10 years, racking up well over a million and a half miles. I started with a Freightliner cabover (black one shown in one of the old photos here that has three cabovers and a U-Model Mack). I then drove a 1984 Peterbilt 359 and ran that till it had 500,000 miles," explained Doug Gay.
